On our holidays, heading off the beaten track is something most of us would really like to do. Well known tourist attractions that are commonly located in well-known cities have been too exposed to us over the years that it has become tiresome for us to see them in person. Christiania – The Freetown

Not far from the Copenhagen city center, it is an alternative hippy commune which was set up in the 70s by a group of like-minded people. After coming to an agreement in 2011, the authorities have chosen to leave Christiania alone despite the original opposition from the past. The small town is completely car-free, and you will not be allowed to purchase a house there; you’ll have to apply for one, given that you have passed a certain criteria which will be given to you. From live music to brilliant street food and even a local market, there is always a lot of things going on in there.
No matter how artsy and quirky neighborhoods could go, nowhere in the world does it better than the Vesterbro. This area, located in the southwest of the city, was once known for being a heavily working class neighborhood and was even famed for its red-light district! In the present, the place is now known as a trendy and hip place that is filled with independent cafes, easteries and attractions. Walking through the town’s streets and just seeing what you come across with is something you should give time to.
